11/12/2017

Workshops, visits or a christmas concert are some of the proposals by the project, that will be completed soon with the creation of an information and visitor reception point in the puerta del Perdón of the mirobrigense cathedral.

Little by little the information point in the Puerta del Perdón is taking shape within the scope of the cultural project “Catedral de Ciudad Rodrigo. La puerta del Reino”, included in the Atlantic Romanesque Intervention Plan, promoted by the Junta de Castilla y León, Iberdrola and the Ministerio de Cultura de Portugal, in collaboration with the dioceses of each territory and developed in Spain by the Fundación Santa María la Real.

Audiovisuals and graphic material will be used to adapt the existing infrastructures in the Puerta del Perdón and convert them into a suitable space for the reception of visitors, from which one can explain not only the history of the temple, but also the goals and scope of the intervention plan.

The installation of a heated seating system in the chapel in which the winter ceremony is celebrated is also predicted, which the goal of contributing to the well being of the faithful. The intervention will be monitored to verify its effect in the monument’s conservation and management.

Parallel activities

Before the information point is finished, several different activities for the public will the conducted, such as thematic guided tours, which will take place on friday, the 15th of December, in both morning and afternoon schedule, or the Christmas concert, on the 22nd of December.

To complete the program, there will be open workshops to show the cathedral, as well as a workshop aimed at the people responsible for the church’s management, which will take place today thanks to the collaboration of the priest. The creation of informational material will also be part of the initiative, and will allow for the activities developed within the scope of the Atlantic Romanesque Plan to be known.

New technologies applied to the conservation of heritage

The intervention was completed, for the moment, with the monitoring of the cathedral, where 35 sensors were installed, in different points of the cathedral, to monitor its temperature, humidity and lighting conditions, amongst others, such as the presence of xylophages that might affect the conservation of the movable property.

The data collected by the sensors will allow for a better knowledge of the hygrothermal behaviour of the building and will facilitate its maintenance, conservation and management. The gathered information, along with the one obtained in previous investigations, will help to adequate future interventions to the building’s real needs in a way that they can be planned and take place before the emergence of damage.
