Study of the challenges and opportunities in the Duero territory as smart tourism destination. This was the first aim of the meeting which took place in Zamora, within the European Project Flumen Durius, which is intended to boost tourism around Duero region.
The session was organised in two round-table talks. The first of them was aimed at analyzing transboundary cultural routes, and one of the good practice examples exposed was the Atlantic Romanesque Plan. Jesús Castillo, technical director, presented and explained that this Plan is a transboundary cooperation project for the conservation of cultural heritage, promoted by Castilla y León Regional Government, Iberdrola Foundation Spain and the Portuguese Government.
The Plan differs from other because it is not only confined to restoration. It also seeks owners’ participation, in this case dioceses, and local population involvement. Moreover, Atlantic Romanesque decisively, opts not only for restoration but also for the conservation of heritage properties, as well as the use of new technologies for energy efficiency and divulgation.
