Atlantic Romanesque organises several cultural actions to boost the territory

27/11/2019
One of the main objectives of the Atlantic Romanesque Plan is to stimulate the territories in which works have been carried out.

The Plan is promoted by the Regional Government of Castilla y León and Iberdrola Foundation in Spain, in collaboration with Santa María la Real Foundation and the dioceses.

The Plan has carried out works in about twenty Romanesque churches in the Spanish provinces of Zamora and Salamanca and Portuguese regions of Porto, Vila Real and Bragança since its launch in 2010.

The cultural activities to be developed within the next weeks will focus the primary school children of Monfarracinos combined rural school in Zamora and the inhabitants of Ciudad Rodrigo. “The Atlantic Romanesque was created with the intention of improving the conservation and management of the buildings as well as boosting their territories”, say those responsible for the Plan.

San Pedro de la Nave in Monfarracinos

The first event will be an educational workshop for 20 students, between six and eight years old, at Monfarracinos combined school carried out on Friday, 29th of November. “We want them to know the works carried out in San Pedro de la Nave church in El Campillo, so that they can understand the importance of conserving and disseminating their heritage”.

A specialised instructor will work with them for about two hours, using the support of two books: “Stones emigrate too” and “Restoring is funny”, both published within the Plan with the aim of approaching the history of San Pedro de la Nave and its works to the children and explaining them in an easy way, by means of activities and games, how important it is to restore and conserve heritage.

Participants will not only read and work with the books but also make cooperation work, reproducing architectonical elements of San Pedro de la Nave church, using recyclable material, such as cardboard boxes.

Ciudad Rodrigo: workshop and concert

After the workshop in Monfarracinos, the Plan will move to Ciudad Rodrigo Cathedral, the 13th of December, with two events. “In the morning we will carry out a workshop for children so as to explain them the history of the cathedral and the works carried out in the building by the Atlantic Romanesque Plan, and in the afternoon there will be a concert for all types of audience”.

The workshop will explain the monitoring process of the building, the cloister restoration by the Regional Government of Castilla y León and the adaptation of an information point at the Puerta del Perdón Door. The concert will be held by Alterum Cor Chamber Choir.

All of these events are important for the revitalisation of the sites were works were carried out and to demonstrate that the work by the Atlantic Romanesque goes behind the action taken to restore the buildings”, those responsible for the Plan say.
