The Atlantic Romanesque Plan applies new technologies to improve communication and dissemination

04/04/2012
To coincide with Holy Week the mobile version of the official website of the Plan will be at the disposal to tourists

To facilitate visits to the churches included in the Atlantic Romanesque Intervention Plan, is just one of many applications of the mobile version of the official website of www.romanicoatlantico.org. The new version has been launched to coincide with Easter, especially to facilitate travel and visits for the public.

Thus, this new application includes all information from the official website, but adapted to the resolution of smartphones, optimized for major mobile operating systems (especially iPhone and Android). For example, the user can immediately access the objectives and goals of Atlantic Romanesque Plan and know that this is a cross-border cooperation project for the conservation of cultural heritage, promoted by the Autonomous Government of Castile y León, and Iberdrola Foundation, the Ministry of Culture of Portugal, the Santa María la Real Foundation and the Diocese of each territory.

Tourism resource:

The new version is presented as an important tourism resource, since it includes many tools for improving visits to the territory of Atlantic Romanesque. Taking advantage of geolocation of mobile devices, a specific tool has been developed that allows the automatic creation of routes for the visitor not only churches, but also other sites of interest found in the area.
Thus, in addition to consulting the various tourist routes that are available on the web, once located in the territory of Atlantic Romanesque, the application will show the user the closest churches to them helping to set up a personalized tour. While using the tool "Near me" the user can select each of the points of interest near their location, see their file, and determine the path in reference to their current location.

On the other hand, little by little other contents, specifically designed to exploit the potential of smartphones, will be added. A streaming audio player will be available, which starts automatically when a QR code is activated. These codes can be found in the churches where they have printed in the tourist brochures and edited by the Plan and allow the user to take advantage of audio guides, which the visitor can listen directly to on their mobile phone like a  Smartphone, without downloading any applications or requiring any other hardware . At those sites lacking access to audio guides, other information will be available.
