16/04/2013
The visit on next April 23rd. is open to the general public and there will be a sign language interpreter present.

Coinciding with Castile and León Day and taking advantage of the regional holiday, the Atlantic Romanesque Plan has organized an activity that combines Heritage, Tourism, Culture and Accessibility on April 23rd. This is a tour of three of the most prominent and iconic temples participating in the intervention plan in the province of Zamora: the churches of San Pedro de la Nave of El Campillo, Santa Marina of Sanabria de Sejas and San Martín of Castañeda.

The visit is open to the general public, however it will be especially tailored to the deaf and hearing impaired. The tour guide explaining the three temples will be accompanied at all times by a sign language interpreter, thus facilitating the participation and involvement of the deaf community. The Federation of the Deaf of Castile and Leon (FAPSCL) and the Clave Association have cooperated with the Atlantic Romanesque team to organize this event.

The organization will provide a bus to Valladolid and Zamora for the visit. In the city of Valladolid, the meeting point is the Plaza de Colón and the departure time  will be at 9 am. Meanwhile, in the city of Zamora, the meeting point will be in Santiago Alba Bonifaz street near the Plaza de la Marina, and the departure time will be at 10.15 am.

Commitment to Accessibility

This tour, adapted for deaf and the hard of hearing, is not an isolated activity, but part of the foundational commitments  of the Atlantic Romanesque Plan.  This project not only seeks to preserve heritage, but also pursues to improve accessibility and dissemination. Continuing along this line in various temples, plates with braille providing information to the blind or visually impaired have been installed.
