The Radio Zamora-Cadena SER team travelled this week to San Martín de Castañeda to broadcast the provincial edition of the programme "Hoy por Hoy".
There was time to talk about the Atlantic Romanesque Plan and the intervention on the building, thanks to the participation of the Director General of the Iberdrola Foundation, Ramón Castresana; the Director General of Heritage of the Regional Government of Castile and León, Gumersindo Bueno, and the project director, Jesús Castillo Oli, architect at the Santa María la Real Foundation. The three of them described the different phases of a comprehensive intervention that has served to recover and revitalise the building.
How? By means of the intervention on the roofs, to solve the problems of humidity in the temple and allow adequate ventilation of the complex; the adaptation of the old sacristy as a chapel for worship; the new lighting and the creation of a visitor reception centre. In addition, the building was monitored, including it in the heritage monitoring system (MHS) to ascertain its environmental and structural conditions and optimise both the interventions and its conservation.
