The ‘Románico Atlántico’ Intervention Plan is a trans-border cooperation project for cultural heritage that plans to intervene in more than 20 Romanesque buildings in the Spanish provinces of Zamora and Salamanca and the Portuguese regions of Porto, Vila-Real and Bragança.

The main goal of the Plan is to conserve, restore, and value the heritage, as the bases for a sustainable growth and development of the territory are settled , through the creation of employment, socio economic revitalization and touristic promotion.

To achieve this, the Plan is committed to go beyond restoration and facilitate preventive conservation and intelligent heritage management. Moreover, an authentic cultural management around heritage has been developed with the launch of educational,cultural, and tourism projects

The development of the Atlantic Romanesque Plan implies close collaboration between the Consejería de Cultura y Turismo de la Junta de Castilla y Léon, Iberdrola, through its Foundation in Spain, and the Secretaria de Estado da Cultura de Portugal. The project was set up in 2010, with an overall budget of 4,5 million Euros borne by the above mentioned entities. All interventions are carried out in constant collaboration with the Catholic Church in both countries. In Spain this task was entrusted to the Fundación Santa Maria la Real del Patrimonio Historico.  Since 2015 the Plan has been undertaking a new phase focused on cultural promotion and the launch of new management models for social-cultural and economical boosting in the territory
