The Atlantic Romanesque Plan begins its intervention in the church of Pobladura de Aliste

23/08/2013
To recuperate an Romanesque façade, to improve the electrical wiring and to monitor the temple are the three cornerstones of the intervention.

The intervention of the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Pobladura de Aliste has started work to restore the original Romanesque façade located on the north wall of the temple, near the cemetery. The work focuses on the opening of the central hole of the door, which until now has been walled up. Once reopened, a steel and alabaster structure will be installed to allow light to enter the nave. This will improve the artistic and historical interpretation of the building, recuperating any lost historical value as well as recovering the original configuration of a door whose decoration and monumentality is a rare testimony within the architectural simplicity of this part of the province of Zamora.

More efficient and artistic illumination

The intervention will continue with the renovation and modernization of the electrical installation of the temple, placing new energy-efficient lights with hidden wiring to reduce its visual impact. Besides being more efficient and sustainable, the new points of light will enhance the illumination of artistic features of the temple, such as the high altar, the presbytery and baptismal fonts.

MHS and an optimal conservation guarantee

The project will finish up with the monitoring of the building. Technicians from the Santa María la Real Foundation will apply the Preventive Conservation System MHS.  Wireless sensors placed at strategic locations will measure, record and control the building's environmental conditions (temperature and humidity) to ensure optimal preservation of the building and artwork housed within. The MHS system also offers security thanks to the installation of motion and smoke detectors that ensure better prevention against possible incidents.

Other interventions within the Plan

The interventions of the Atlantic Romanesque Plan for the province of Zamora are scheduled to continue in mid-September, in the church of Our Lady of the Flag in Fermosella, where works to improve lighting, monitoring and restoration of temple altarpieces will be carried out. Meanwhile, in the province of Salamanca, currently works in the chapel of the Virgen del Castillo in Yecla de Yeltes are being carried out. This intervention focuses on improving the lighting and monitoring of the temple, as well as the renovation of roofing and carpentry.
