Bragança / Mogadouro. Route: The river border

It is a small village in the north of Portugal, whose origin goes back to ancient times. The Neolithic archaeological remains discovered in the area demonstrate this.

In reference to its heritage, the church of Nuestra Señora de la Anunciación, was built with a style denominated “Rural Gothic.” The East End and the main chancel were demolished and built again in the 20th Century.  In the interior, the main Mannerist altarpiece has an image of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.  Peculiarly, the south façade is sitting on top of an outcropping of granite which is conserved and visible in the interior.  This church, as well as others in the area, is characterized by having very little light in the interior due to the presence of narrow skylights.

The castle of “Malvecino” or “de los Moros” is located in the village.  There are hardly any ruins of the castle left and they can be found further down from the urban center.  However, the castle has enriched the area with several legends.  There is also a medieval cemetery excavated in the rock.
